However, Flight Club 502 in Louisville is helping put a dent in those numbers by training the next generation of aviation professionals.”

“A local aviation group is teaching children about the industry through the four educational disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Flight Club 502, based out of Bowman Field in Louisville, is a nonprofit dedicated to teaching young students about leadership and success through goal-setting in aviation.
The organization was formed in 2015 by a small group of high schoolers who wanted to inspire other students to become successful in life while using and incorporating aviation and STEM subjects.”

"Flight Club 502, OBAP summer programs take off at Bowman Field"
“Some Louisville kids and teens are spending their summer break learning to fly airplanes.
This year, the Organization of Black Aerospace
Professional’s (OBAP’s) summer week-long camp is taking place under their partner’s headquarters at Bowman Field: nonprofit Flight Club 502. Some students are members of both nonprofits.
The nationwide nonprofit OBAP started in 1976 as a way to create more opportunities in the aerospace industry for minorities.”

"Waggener High School senior works toward pilot license, high school diploma"
“High school seniors all over Jefferson County Public Schools will walk the graduation stage this week, including a Waggener High School senior, who isn’t done studying for one more test.
That senior is Saif Al Khafaji, and the test he needs to pass is to receive his private pilot license.
Al Khafaji is originally from Iraq. Around 10 years old, Al Khafaj’s family moved to Turkey to seek refugee in America.”

"High School Students in the Air"
“Today we had the opportunity to tour Flight Club 502 at Bowman Field, Louisville KY. A huge thank you to Annabelle, Kiva, Chloe and Will who facilitated an outstanding visit. Annabelle kicked us off by giving the history and purpose of the club emphasizing their focus on providing young people leadership opportunities, entrepreneurship, setting and accomplishing goals, and having a strong sense of patriotism. Our young men were then able to fly a C-172 simulator and preflight a Diamond DA20 aircraft. Will put the guys through the paces in the simulator and Kiva and Chloe shared their preflight expertise.”
