Iris Charles Becomes a Private Pilot

Flight Club 502 is thrilled to celebrate one of our dedicated members, Iris Charles, as she officially earns her Private Pilot Certificate!

Iris joined Flight Club 502 in 2023 and quickly demonstrated her passion and commitment to aviation. Her hard work and determination were evident early on, as she soloed on October 13, 2023, and earned her Ground Instructor Certificate just two months later in December 2023.

Currently attending Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), Iris has balanced her studies and flight training with impressive focus and discipline. Her latest achievement came on January 22, 2024, when she officially became a Private Pilot.

We are so proud of Iris and her accomplishments, and we look forward to seeing where her aviation journey takes her next. Congratulations to Iris and her CFI, Paul Cobb, on this outstanding achievement!

Flight Club 502 is a non-profit 501 (c)(3), based out of Bowman Field (KLOU), Louisville, KY. It is dedicated to teaching teens about leadership and success through realistic goal setting in aviation and through Next Gen/STEM education.

The organization was established in 2015 by a group of high schoolers who wanted to inspire other students to succeed while incorporating aviation and STEM subjects as a springboard for that success. Flight Club 502 is owned and operated by youth members with professional adult supervision.

We have 750 youth members, 310 kids soloed, 204 Private Pilot Licenses, 8 Instrument ratings, and counting! In the past 12 months we offered programming to 1500 youth outside our organization! In 2019, we built an RV-12 that was flown to Oshkosh in a UPS 747 aircraft to be displayed!
